US defense officials have downplayed China's new Xi'an H-20 bomber in interviews with reporters this past Monday describing the aircraft as "not really" a concern.
Without going into any detail, the same officials make the claim that the system design of the H-20 is "nowhere near as good" as the US stealth aircrafts. The H-20 bomber looks to be China's answer to Northrup Grumman's B-21 Raider which made is public debut late last year. The debut was followed quickly by Chinese engineers and spokespersons pointing out supposed flaws in the production timelines, as well as highlighting simulation findings indicating that Chinese air defenses would be able to track and down US B-21 Raiders.
"China's hypersonic missiles are built with special features to track and kill stealth aircraft. Using a new solid fuel 'pulse engine' that can adjust power output at will throughout the flight, the missile can first for up to near space and come down on the enemy aircraft at an extremely high speed", says Chinese engineers, citing research published in Acta Aeuronautica et Astronautica Sinica by Chinese aerospace researchers.
PLA officials have told the public to be patient as the H-20 is "coming soon" and that it will be "worth the excitement". US officials, on the other hand, do not seem to excited or bother by the unveiling but do admit that there won't be much to worry about until we see the aircraft in action.
